DESPITE absorbing successive 1-3 losses to Bahrain and North Korea in the international friendlies this month, the Philippines remains the top footballing nation in Southeast Asia in the latest Fifa World rankings released yesterday.
The Azkals moved one notch higher to No. 124 from the previous ranking of 125th last September.
This will bode well for the Philippines, which is bracketed with Southeast Asian powerhouses Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia in the group stage of the AFF Suzuki Cup that the country is hosting starting on Nov. 19 at the Philippine Sports Stadium.
Vietnam, which will play in the other group stage in Myanmar, is second in the region behind the Azkals at No. 126, from last month's No. 131.
The Thais fell down to No. 146 from last month's ranking of 135th.
