DESPITE his appointment as the Philippines’ special envoy to China, former President Fidel Ramos will not be joining President Rodrigo Duterte on his visit to Beijing next week.
Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said Ramos informed them that he will not join Duterte’s entourage during his trip to China on October 18 to 21. The former president did not give a reason for his decision, Andanar said.
Andanar, however, said Ramos probably decided to skip the trip to show respect to the sitting president.
“I believe it is about giving respect to our current President Rodrigo Duterte sapagka’t (kung) yung dalawang president po ang pupunta doon posibleng mahati ang atensyon,” he said.
He added that Ramos remains the country’s special envoy to China.
