A seven-year-old boy was killed while his younger brother was injured when they were swept away by raging floodwater at the height of a heavy downpour in San Mateo, Rizal, Tuesday afternoon.

Reports reaching the Municipal Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office identified the fatality  as Cedric Ortega and the wounded brother as Nicholo, 2, both of Bgy. Gulod, San Mateo, who is still confined at Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center.
Authorities said the siblings were recovered at 10 p.m. or seven hours after they were swept away by floodwater.
The older Ortega was retrieved in a drainage  while his brother was found hanging from a tree a few meters away from their residence.
Stephen Flores of the MDRRMO said the mother of the two kids left her children inside their house at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday at the height of a heavy rainfall.
However, the kids went outside to play in the floodwater until the Ortega brothers were swept away by the current.
