BUHAY Partylist Representative Lito Atienza is set to file a resolution urging his colleagues to stop the House probe into the drug scandal at the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) implicating Sen. Leila De Lima and let the Department of Justice file a case against the former justice secretary for her alleged links to the prison drug trade.

Atienza said he believed that the DoJ has enough evidence to file a case against De Lima for possible violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act and Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act based on the testimonies of the witnesses which he said were credible enough to indict her.

The former Manila mayor insisted that Congress would be better off focusing on other important legislation, not only the proposed 2017 budget but other laws which President Rodrigo Duterte wanted to prioritized including the Freedom on Information (FOI) Bill.

Atienza said the testimonies of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) deputy director Rafael Ragos and NBI Intelligent agent Jovencio Ablen, Jr. were very credible, including that of other convicted drug lords who testified on the alleged deals of De Lima to earn funds for her election campaign.

“Let her answer all the allegations against her, not in Congress but in the court of justice. Nagtataka lang ako kung bakit lahat ng nahuhuli o nabubuko, biglang nagiging asset,” Atienza said referring to Jaybee Sebastian and Marine Lt. Col. Ferdinand Marcelino. “Ginagawa naman nila tayong mangmang, hindi naman tayo mangmang” he added.
Atienza said he believed that the drug problem is a national catastrophe that should be addressed. He said he is happy that we have a president like Duterte who is bravely and seriously fighting illegal drugs.
“I did not support him but I am thankful he won. Paano kung hindi siya ang nanalo? Baka dumating ang oras na masahol pa ang bansa natin sa Columbia o Mexico,” Atienza said.
