NAASCU: Stallions stun Saints

MANUEL Luis Quezon achieved what seven other teams failed to do: beat St. Clare College-Caloocan.

The Stallions caught the Saints in their worst shape, pulling off a king-sized 83-82 upset win in the 16th NAASCU men’s basketball tournament at the RTU gym on Boni Ave.,  Mandaluyong City.
   
Christopher Bitoon exploded with 27 points to power the Stallions of coach JR Manansala and manager Jomar Acuzar to their fourth win in seven matches.
   
Jaymark Mallari added 15 points, Reggie Ignacio contributed 10 and Ronnie Pangan had eight for the Quiapo-based team supported by New San Jose Builders.
   
St. Clare dropped to 7-1.
   
Irven Palencia  finished with 18 points for St. Clare, which is being handled by coach Jinino Manansala.
   
Backing up Palencia were Aris Dionisio  (13), Rojay Santos (9) and Mark Puspus (8).
   
Rizal Technological University downed EARIST, 106-97, in overtime.
   
The Blue Thunder of coach Johnadel Cardel leaned on Cyrus Tabi’s 21 points and  Kerr Bangeles’ 18 points to subdue the Red Fox and improve to 5-3.
   
Aries Baculpo paced EARIST with  22 markers.
