THREE suspected members of a liquidation squad, apparently behind the extrajudicial killings of drug personalities as well as those in other illegal activities, were killed after the suspects ignored a checkpoint and opened fire that triggered a shootout with policemen yesterday in Las Piñas City.
Supt. Jemar Modequillo, chief of Las Piñas police, said the incident took place shortly after 1:20 a.m. at the corner of Real St. and Naga Road, Bgy. Pulang Lupa.
Police said the suspects, whose identities are still being verified, were initially flagged down by policemen manning a checkpoint while they were on board a gray AUV (TGB 477).
While the policemen were approaching for a routine check, the suspects suddenly opened fire and sped away towards C5 Extension.
The policemen gave chase until they cornered the suspects on C5 Extension corner Coastal Road which led to a brief shootout that resulted in the suspects’ instantaneous death.
After the shootout, police found a body of an unidentified man, whose face was wrapped with a packaging tape and apparently a victim of summary execution, in the compartment of the suspects’ vehicle.
They added that a placard was also found that read “Tulak ako, magnanakaw wag tularan.”
Likewise a bonnet, knife, gloves, packaging tape and rope were found inside the suspects’ vehicle.
They also recovered from the suspects a 9mm pistol, a shotgun, a cal. .38 gun and a sachet of suspected shabu.
