LOVI Poe had a solo presscon for the show that returns her to primetime, “Someone to Watch Over Me”, that starts airing tomorrow night replacing “Juan Happy Love Story”. “I’m excited with this show as this is my first project in my new three-year contract with GMA-7,” she says. “First time ko rin to work with Tom Rodriguez and it reunites me with one of our best directors in the industry, Maryo J. de los Reyes.

I fell in love with the story right after reading the script. I play Joanna, a working class girl in Vigan, who meets a tourist from Manila, Tom as TJ. Maganda 'yung development ng love story namin.

Kinasal kami and have a child. Everything goes on smoothly until Tom begins to sense that there is something very wrong with him. He sees a doctor and is diagnosed with having early onset of Alzheimer's disease. He hides this from me and it’s I who notice that he is beginning to forget a lot of things.         When I discover his secret, diyan magsisimula ang paghihirap ko as the wife who chooses to stand by her husband. I will always be watching over Tom, prioritizing his happiness, even if it means that I will have to make the biggest sacrifice when it turns out he has no memory of me anymore at ang naaalala lang niya is his previous girlfriend, si Max Collins as Irene.”

Lovi is quite busy these days as she’s also shooting a new movie for Regal, “The Escort”, with Derek Ramsay and Christopher de Leon, which is why she has no time for love at all. “Usually, pagod na pagod ako sa trabaho kaya pag-uwi ko ng bahay, matutulog na lang ako.”

Is this the reason why she ended her relationship with Rocco Nacino?
“First of all, I want to make it clear that there’s nothing wrong with Rocco. It was really hard for me to let him go but I have to make a personal choice for myself. I have to go through a process of learning through self discovery. Kapag na-in love kasi ako, gusto ko, lagi kaming magkasama and as of now, I just want to do things on my own.
Dumaraan lang siguro ako sa quarter-life crisis. But I think what happened naman helped us grow kasi I heard he now has his own place, away from his parents, and he’s independent na, just like me.”
She’s still shooting a new movie with Rocco, “Lakambini”, which has stopped for a while. What if they resume the shoot soon? “Okay lang naman.  I’d like to think naman na friends pa rin kami and we’re both professionals.”
Someone quips that ditching Rocco is akin to what he did to Sheena Halili before as he was the one who broke up with Sheena. “You know, their story is their own story and I never inquired from Rocco about it. For me kasi, what is past is past. Wala naman akong kinalaman doon.”

IVANA Chubbuck, world class acting coach who gave Halle Berry her Oscar best actress award, is back in town to give a two day master class in acting for ABS-CBN’s Star Magic. At the solo presscon hosted for her by Star Magic’s Thess Gubi, a video was shown interviewing stars who attended her first workshop two years ago: Piolo Pascual, Jake Cuenca, Dimples Romana, Arjo Atayde, among others.
All of them spoke highly of Ivana’s acting technique which is described in her best-selling book, “The Power of the Actor”, that has been translated into 18 languages. We ask Ivana if the story about her and Brad Pitt is true or just an urban legend: That when she first met Brad, he was wearing a chicken suit promoting a chicken fastfood resto. “Brad said that the money he paid to take my acting lessons came from that job of his,” she says.
“But I never really saw him wearing that chicken suit.”
She also coached Beyonce and she was very good in “Dreamgirls”, but how come her acting career didn’t prosper? “She didn’t really want to act. But she told me that what she learned from me, she’ll use in her singing and this she did in her women empowerment songs, also in her music videos.”
How come she’s called a “celebrity whisperer”? “Those are their words, not mine. What I really want to do is just to inspire actors to greatness and they can do this by personalizing their roles in their own lives so people can relate to it.”
Ivana is holding her two-day workshop on September 3 and 4 at the Dolphy Theater. The  master class  would  have participating actors re-create scenes  from  Hollywood  films, which  will be critiqued in the same manner that Ivana does with Hollywood  stars. Similar to the master class two years ago, observers are open to witness the two day event in order to cull tips from the respected Hollywood acting coach who looks like our very own Pilar Pilapil in person.
Star Magic Artist Training Head Rahyan Carlos underwent an intensive teacher’s training program under Ivana, which allowed him to become proficient  in  the  different  levels of acting classes, from Introductory  to  Master Class. Direk Rahyan earned the title of being the only Filipino authorized to teach the ‘Chubbuck Technique’ in the Philippines.
