St.Clare, Fatima triumph

ST.CLARE College-Caloocan and Our Lady of Fatima University  pulled off similar easy victories to gain a share of the early lead in the 16th NAASCU men’s basketball tournament at the Makati Coliseum.

St. Clare routed  Philippine Merchant Marine School, 85-62,  while Fatima toppled Rizal Technological University, 99-84,  for their second straight  wins  in the 14-team tournament.
   
Irven Palencia, Aristotle Dionisio, Jordan Rios, Michael de Leon and Rafael Rebugio  scored almost at  will to power the Saints of  NAASCU chairman Dr. Ernesto Jay Adalem and coach Jinino Manansala  to their  second straight tlopsided triumph.
   
Palencia scored 16 points, while Dionisio added a double-double effort with 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Saints, who debuted with an 82-67 victory over AMA University last Aug. 25.
   
Reggie Debulcos  and Domark Marillano combined for 29 points for the Mariners, who suffered their second straight loss.
   
OLFU relied on -Jess Pedrosa (18), Martin Gozum (16),  Miguel Cabrera (14) and  Joseph Marquez (13)  to silence the Thunder.
   
In other games, De Ocampo Memorial College overpowered Colegio de San Lorenzo, 91-77; and New Era University humbled City University of Pasay, 76-69
   
Dahrell Carungunan scored 29 points  for the Cobras of coach Ronnie Dojillo.
