Speeding PNR train kills woman

A woman was killed after being dragged by a speeding Philippine National Railways (PNR) train in Sampaloc, Manila the other day.

PO2 Benito Mateo of the Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit (MDTEU) identified the victim as Marlene Maca-pagal, 41, of 1732 Min-danao Avenue, Sampa-loc, Manila. She was identified by her live-in partner Roberto Alberto.

It was learned that the incident took place at 11:49 a.m. at the southbound lane of the PNR railroad between G. Tuazon and España Stations in Sta. Mesa, Manila.

Witness Joan Bisbal, 29, told probers that she saw the victim walking near the railroad tracks and did not notice the approaching train, even if it kept blowing its horn. Said train, with body number DEL-902, was said to be operated by train machinists Anthony Tan and Tranquilino Solfeo.

The victim was reportedly hit and dragged by the train for a few meters, killing her instantly.
