Ecija irrigators’ group prexy hurt in gun attack

TALUGTUG, Nueva Ecija -- A farmer-leader of an irrigators’ association in this town survived a slay attempt allegedly perpetrated by three men, including a former president of said farmers’ group, here last Friday, police said yesterday.

Shot and wounded was Crisante Cerbo, 58, president of the Maasin Dam Irrigators’ Association, of Purok 5, Bgy. Maasin, this town.

Town police commander Senior Insp. Rodrigo D. Clemente said the gun attack transpired while the victim was busy fixing the dam bunkhouse at 4 a.m.

Clemente identified the suspects as Rogelio delos Reyes, 55, former irrigators’ association president; Domi-nador Blanco, 49, and Rexson Picaso, 26, all of Bgy. Maasin.

He said the suspects arrived at the dam site and suddenly shot the victim several times before escaping.
   
The victim sustained several gunshot wounds in different parts of the body and was rushed to the Dr. PJGMRMC in Cabanatuan City for emergency treatment.
   
Police, however, were able to track down and eventually arrest the fleeing suspects, said Cle-mente.
   
Probers recovered five fired cartridge cases for cal. .45 pistol at the crime scene.
   
Charges of frustrated murder are being readied for filing against the arrested suspects before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Cabanatuan City.
