HOOPSTERS from the City of Manila strut their wares to bring home the championship in the initial staging of the “Animo Kapandesal Olympics” tomorrow at the Enrique Razon Sports Complex, Taft Avenue.
Cagers from Leveriza aged 15-21 years old will battle it out on the hard court comprising the teams from Barangays 707, 704, 720, 717, 719, 718, 714 and one team from the Alternative Learning Center (ALS).
“Animo Kapandesal Olympics” is one way of Kapandesal Multipurpose Cooperative’s way to discover competent athletes who could represent the country in the Olympics and part of its implementation of specific programs and advocacies for the Filipino youth.
The event was made possible in partnership with De La Salle University through the COSCA (Center for Social Concern and Action) to promote camaraderie, teamwork and cooperation among them as well as to win the younger generation away from bad vices and alcoholism.
The basketball competition will be played on single round-robin system where the teams will face tough opponents in the semi-finals on August 21 and the last remaining two will battle for championship on the last Sunday of August.
“Animo Kapandesal Olympics” will be an annual event that will also feature sepak takraw and volleyball, among others.
