THE late President Ferdinand Marcos will be laid to rest at the Libingan ng mga Bayani with ceremonies befitting a president.
But Malacanang said there is no final date yet for the Marcos burial although earlier reports claimed that the date is September 18.
Marcos’ remains have reportedly been transferred to a coffin as the mausoleum in Batac, Ilocos Norte that had housed his body for years has been closed to the public.
There have been mounting calls for President Rodrigo Duterte to reconsider his decision regarding the burial of Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella told Palace reporters yesterday that Marcos will be accorded ‘’ceremonies fitting a president.”
Preparations are now underway for the transfer of Marcos’s remainsto the cemetery for soldiers and presidents.
The Marcos family recently bought a solid bronze casket for the patriarch.
Chief presidential legal counsel Salvador Panelo said they will oppose on legal grounds moves to stop Malacañang from granting hero’s burial to the late strongman.
