A FATHER and his son were hacked and shot dead by two siblings who harboured ill-feelings due to an old family feud the other day in Labason, Zamboanga del Norte.

The fatalities were identified as Bernardo Deniega, 22, and his father Bernie Deniega, 45, both of Sitio Bitoon, Bgy. Balas, Labason.
The suspects, identified as Gilbert Maningo, 38, and Alvin Maningo, 25, submitted themselves to local police after the incident.
Reports said the incident occurred at 10 a.m. a few meters away from the suspects’ house.
Accordingly, suspect Gilbert was on his way home when Bernardo blocked his way and poked his gun. However, the suspect quickly took his bolo and hacked the victim in the neck, causing his instantaneous death
The victim’s father who saw the incident tried to rescue his son by firing his gun towards the suspect but failed to hit the latter.
The suspect’s brother, Alvin, immediately ran to the crime scene and saw the victim’s father fired his gun towards his brother so he took out his gun and shot him, resulting  in the latter’s death.
Recovered at the crime scene were a cal. .38 pistol owned by victim Bernie and three live ammunition and a cal. .357 pistol with six live ammunition near Bernardo’s body, a cal. .45 pistol and a 22-inch bolo.
The recovered items were placed under the custody of the Labason Municipal Police Station where the suspects were detained.
