THE House committee on justice is scheduled to vote tomorrow morning whether to impeach Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justice Mariano C. Del Castillo amid strong protest from the House opposition bloc that the 60 session days as required by the Constitution for the panel to submit a report before the plenary had already expired.
Iloilo Rep. Niel Tupas, chair of the House committee on justice, said there is no turning back on their agenda to determine whether probable cause exists on the complaint against Del Castillo as he reiterated that the 60 session days have not yet elapsed.
“As of the moment, the panel is scheduled to push through with the determination of probable cause and we have not yet reached the limit,” said Tupas.
But House Deputy Minority Leader and Zambales Rep. Ma. Milagros “Mitos” Magsaysay berated Tupas for purportedly extending the period, adding that the House of Representatives miserably failed to carry its legislative duties of passing legislation and conducting congressional hearings because lawmaker’s hands are tied with the trial of impeached Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Renato Corona.
“Dapat patay na ang complaint kay Del Castillo. February 2, 2011 pa ’yan nai-refer sa justice committee. How can you say that only 58 session days had passed?
“Itinuloy pa rin ang kay Del Castillo kasi they want to have him impeached.
