JUSTICE Secretary Leila de Lima yesterday formally received her subpoena requiring her to appear before the Senate impeachment trial court to prove that Chief Justice Renato Corona betrayed public trust through his alleged partiality in restraining the watch-list order against former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
De Lima was required to appear on February 22 and bring the following documents, among others:
-- Bureau of Immigrattion records stating the entry and exit in the Philippines of Corona from October to November 2011;
-- petition for special civil actions for certiorari and prohibition with prayer for the issuance of a temporary restraining order (TRO) and/or writ of preliminary injunction filed by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo;
-- surveillance camera video of the Padre Faura entrance of the Department of Justice taken on the evening of Nov. 15, 2011 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.;
-- reccord of denial of the attempted exit of Mrs. Arroyo and her husband Mike with the BI on November 15, 2011
Article VII of the impeachment complaint accused Corona of betraying public trust through his "partiality in granting a TRO in favor of Mrs. Arroyo and her husband Mike in order to give them an opportunity to escape prosecution and to frustrate the ends of justice, and in distorting the SC decision on the effectivity of the TRO in view of a clear failure to comply with the conditions of the SC's own TRO."
