MALACAÑANG assured the public heads will roll following the reported allegations of anomalies, sex trade and VIP treatment at the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said complaints of corruption and other irregularities under the new administration of BuCor chief Gaudencio Pangilinan is best left to the DOJ which has jurisdiction over the New Bilibid Prisons.
Valte told Palace reporters that Malacañang has already coordinated with De Lima on the controversy with the latter’s probe on the matter.
“Nagbigay po ng verbal explanation sa kanya. However, the Secretary asked Director Pangilinan to reduce that explanation in writing... So, hintayin po din natin ’yung mga updates but as of the moment, meron na hong ginagawa si Secretary De Lima tungkol po dito,” Valte said.
The controversy cropped up, several weeks after President Benigno C. Aquino III witnessed the launching of the BuCor Roadmap 2022 and modernization of the NBP.
Valte, however, did not mention if the Palace would make a separate investigation on the issues raised by Kabungsuan Makilala, a former assistant head of the BuCor bids and awards committee.
It will be recalled that Pangilinan replaced P-Noy’s close friend and former BuCor chief Ernesto Diokno following the VIP treatment on former Batangas Gov. Antonio Leviste.
Earlier, Makilala claimed road rage killer Rolito Go and other rich and influential inmates continue to enjoy special treatment.
Makilala also claimed that corruption, prostitution and other irregularities allegedly worsened when Pangilinan took over the helm of BuCor.
Pangilinan, a retired Army general, replaced Diokno on July 19, 2011, a few days after the latter quit his post following the discovery of Leviste’s unauthorized trips outside the state penitentiary in Muntinlupa City.
