More cops fielded to Senate, SC amid impeach trial

MORE policemen were ordered deployed to the Senate, Supreme Court and other government offices where mass actions of pro and anti-Chief Justice Renato Corona are expected in the wake of the ongoing trial of the impeached top magistrate at the Upper House, Philippine National Police chief Director General Nicanor A. Bartolome said yesterday.

The move is aimed at ensuring peace and order on the Senate premises and preventing demonstrators from blocking roads and causing huge traffic jams and other public disturbances.

“Nagdadagdag lang tayo ng mga tao kasi nga dahil doon sa mga nagra-rally.  Kasi kung minsan kapag pinabayaan mo yan bigla na lang dumadami, bigla na lang nagsusulputan,” the PNP chief said.

Different groups who favor or are against the impeachment trial of Corona have been conducting lightning rallies at selected government offices specifically the Supreme Court and the Senate over the past two weeks to dramatize their sentiments.

The National Capital Region Police Office headed by Director Alan LM Purisima is spearheading the security measures in Metro Manila with the help of the Armed Forces National Capital Region Office.
