THE petition of Chief Justice Renato Corona seeking to stop his impeachment trial has been raffled off to a magistrate appointed by President Benigno Aquino III.
Sources said the suit was raffled off last week to Associate Justice Estela Perlas – Bernabe after Associate Justice Presbitero Velasco Jr., whose son Lord Allan was one of the congressmen who signed the impeachment complaint, inhibited.
The source said Bernabe is tasked to write the SC’s decision on the separate petition of Philippine Savings Bank (PSBank) challenging the Senate’s ruling requiring it to produce the records of Corona’s alleged foreign currency accounts.
Bernabe is the third justice appointed by Mr. Aquino to the SC. The other two are Justices Ma. Lourdes Sereno and Bienvenido Reyes. Hector Lawas
