P-Noy-INC link remains stable

MALACAÑANG is hopeful that President Benigno S. Aquino III has no falling out with the Iglesia ni Cristo, pointing out that his ties with the influential religious group is “okay”.

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda downplayed scenarios of sympathy rallies from the INC for impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Lacierda insisted that Aquino continues to enjoy a good relationship with the INC.

“As far as we know, the relationship with INC is okay,” he said.

He said there is no need yet at this time to clarify the INC stand on the impeachment versus Corona.

“Let us just wait. Wala silang sinabi,” he said.

He also doubted that Corona’s plight will get people massing in the streets for him.

Lacierda contested speculations that Thursday’s pro-Corona rally had the backing of the INC, which supported Aquino III in the 2010 elections.

Last Thursday, several groups gathered at the Supreme Court premises in Manila to show their support for Corona, who with his wife waved to them from the High Court’s balcony.         Efren Montano
