Corona bank accounts illegal wealth proof?

THE House prosecution panel want all bank accounts of Chief Justice Renato Corona disclosed to determine if these match his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth (SALN).

In a press briefing, Spokesperson Marikina Rep. Miro Quimbo, Aurora Rep. Juan Edgardo Angara and Deputy Speaker Erin Tañada, said that they requested the Senate Impeachment court to subpoena additional bank accounts of Corona.

The three solons refused to give the exact number of accounts but said there are many, that include dollar accounts amounting to millions.

“May karamihan ito (bank accounts),” Quimbo said when asked how many accounts Corona and his wife Cristina own.

Corona reportedly has a dollar account which qualified for a bank monthly raffle where he won P1 million.

According to Angara, they received unverified information that based on the policy of a certain bank, the depositor must first possess a dollar account before joining the monthly raffle.

Earlier, the prosecution panel requested the impeachment court to subpoena officials of the Philippine Savings Bank and Bank of the Philippine Islands to testify on the accounts of Corona.

The prosecution panel discovered two more accounts in the two banks.

It was also revealed that Corona won P1 million in the PSBank monthly raffle, which shows he is maintaining an account in that bank.

The prosecutors wanted to look into the bank accounts of Corona to determine if the deposits are ill-gotten wealth.    Jester P. Manalastas
