THE defense lawyers of impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona yesterday described as “weak” the impeachment complaint filed by the House prosecution panel against the Supreme Court head since it was prepared in haste.
“A blitzkrieg complaint only results in a weak position because as we are undergoing trial, the prosecution is still looking for evidence to fit their pre-designed script,” said Karen Jimeno, Corona’s spokesperson.
Jimeno was referring to two consecutive days of “wilting witnesses of the prosecution who further strengthened the hand of the defense.” She added: “You need to prep your witness but you also need to do a lot of research most especially since the onus of proving what they alleged in the ‘verified’ Impeachment Complaint is with the prosecution.”
“In this Day 11, the defense (panel) remains steadfast that the Chief Justice was wrongfully impeached and that all these efforts to destroy the Chief Justice is partisan politics aided by partisan media,” said Tranquil Salvador, another Corona defense spokesman.
“As the public can see, the defense is not and has never been the source of delay and we have been respectful of every decision, the Senate as the impeachment court and Senator-Judges per instructions given to us by the Chief Justice,” Salvador said.
