SUPPORTERS of embattled former Commission on Elections Chairman Benjamin Abalos are asking why the Pasay City Regional Trial Court is taking so long to decide on the pending motion for inhibition against Judge Jesus Mupas.
The group gathered yesterday outside the office of Mayor Benhur Abalos, the former Comelec chief’s son, to show their solid support for the older Abalos who is being held at the headquarters of Southern Police District in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
“Matagal na rin po ang pinaghintay ni Chairman, simula pa noong mai-file ang motion sa korte,” a resident, who asked to be identified only as Mrs. Dela Cruz, said.
She said she is among the thousands of supporters who flocked to the Pasay City court last Jan. 9 and paid visits to the former poll chief. “My children are just prohibiting me to visit and join the supporters of Chairman Abalos because I am already old,” she added. She said that she is only after what is legal and appealed to the court to grant the motion for inhibition as soon as possible.
The motion will reportedly be resolved next week.
The Motion to Inhibit against Pasay City Regional Trial Court Branch 112 Judge Jesus Mupas was filed by the counsel of Abalos last Dec. 23.
Mandaluyong Mayor Abalos expressed concern his father will not get a fair trial under the present judge.
