JUSTICE Secretary Leila M. de Lima yesterday announced the relief of National Bureau of Investigation Director Magtanggol B. Gatdula in the wake of the controversy that hounded the NBI after some of its agents headed by Mario Garcia were linked to the kidnapping-extortion of a 32-year old undocumented Japanese woman.
De Lima did not name who will replace Gatdula at the NBI although the name of Director Samuel D. Pagdilao Jr. of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group has been mentioned as one of the top contenders to replace Gatdula.
De Lima made the announcement during the 59th anniversary of the PNP-CIDG where she was the guest of honor and speaker.
Gatdula is a lawyer from Philippine Military Academy Class 1976 who is known for his unblemished record until disaster struck in the form of agents of the NBI Security and Management Division who were accused of kidnapping Noriyo Ohara before demanding P6 million for her release.
