Gloria blamed

THE ongoing squabble in the House Minority group is getting serious as one of the leaders accused former President now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of being behind the plan to oust him.

In a statement, Minority Leader Edcel Lagman, a known staunch ally of Arroyo, said the former President wants him to be replaced by Quezon Rep. Danilo Suarez, whom he described as Arroyo’s favorite traveling buddy abroad.

But Suarez denied the allegation of Lagman and defended Arroyo, saying that it is unfair to link to the controversy the former President who is now under hospital arrest.

“Foul naman yan. The former president has nothing to do with that. She has so many problems. She only said if there’s an agreement for term sharing then that must be honored. But that was sometime in November,” Suarez said.

Suarez appealed to the members of the opposition not to drag the former President, who is now suffering from a rare illness in cervical spine.

According to Lagman, Arroyo called an emergency meeting in her hospital suite at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) last Wednesday night with some opposition members, including Suarez.

Lagman said that although he is an ally of Arroyo, he is not a GMA stooge and does not follow her bidding.     Jester P. Manalastas
