A police officer with alleged links to illegal activities was killed in an ambush yesterday morning in Caloocan City.
Caloocan police chief Senior Supt. Johnson Almazan said PO2 Marlo Bautista, 48, presently assigned at Caloocan Police Community Precinct (PCP) 5 and resident of 11412 Phase 6, Purok 2, Bgy. 178, Camarin, died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds in the body.
Bautista was on his way to report for duty at around 7 a.m. on board his motorcycle when four armed men on two motorcycles blocked his path at the corner of Ilang-Ilang and Bunag Streets in Camarin Area B, Bgy. 175.
Two of the back riders pulled out their firearms and shot the victim several times, killing him instantly. As if not satisfied, another suspect alighted from his motorcycle and pumped two more bullets into the victim’s body before he took the latter’s firearm, a caliber .9mm Beretta with serial number M111120Z.
After the killing, the assailants sped away aboard their motorcycles.
Elements of the Northern Police District Crime Laboratory Office (NPD-CLO) recovered at the crime scene 13 empty shells and two fired slugs for still undetermined caliber of firearms.
In an interview, Almazan said PO2 Bautista is currently being investigated for his alleged involvement in illegal activities, including illegal drugs.
