Justice Secretary Vitaliano N. Aguirre II yesterday ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct a probe into the killing of Bureau of Customs (BoC) Deputy Commissioner Arturo Lachica, who was shot dead Thursday night in Manila.

Justice Undersecretary Erickson Balmes told reporters that Aguirre has ordered NBI Director Dante Gierran to immediately conduct an investigation on this condemnable act.

Reports said Lachica was declared dead on arrival at United Doctors Medical Center after sustaining two gunshot wounds in the chest.

The official was headed home when a motorcycle-riding man fired at his black sedan at 6:50 p.m. along España Blvd., Manila.

Meanwhile, the BoC assured cooperation with authorities on the investigation of the case.
