PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has given the go signal for the Marcos family to proceed with the burial of the late President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
In a press briefing before he left for Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, the President said he would stick to what the law says.
Duterte said he had assured former Sen. Bongbong Marcos during his visit in Tacloban City on Tuesday that he could proceed with the hero’s burial.
“Sabi ko: ‘It is your choice...’ I will not take my word back,” Duterte said to the young Marcos
“As I have said, as a lawyer, I will stick to what the law says. The law says if the soldiers and ex-presidents kung namatay — miski hindi siguro ex basta presidente ka — doon ka ilibing,” Duterte said.
Duterte also addressed the sentiments of Martial Law victims, pointing out that Marcos has not been found guilty of any human rights violation in any court.
“That part of the sins of Marcos has yet to be proven by a competent court,” the President said.
