PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has rejected burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani when his time comes.
“Susmaryosep, kanila na ‘yan. Pagtatalunan pa natin ‘yan,” Duterte told reporters after he visited his family’s mausoleum in Davao City on All Saints’ Day.
Instead of being laid to rest at the Libingan ng mga Bayani where at least two other former presidents are buried, Duterte said he prefers to be interred in his hometown.
“Walang pinakamas honor para sa akin kung ‘di itatabi ako sa nanay pati tatay ko,” he said.
President Duterte meanwhile has insisted on allowing the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani despite protests from victims of martial law.
Under military regulations, presidents and commanders-in-chief, chiefs of staff, dignitaries, statesmen may be buried at the Libingan.
