AN 18-YEAR-OLD suspected drug dealer was killed in a firefight with anti-narcotics operatives in Sta. Maria, Bulacan, while a “high-value target” was arrested in Central Visayas, police reported last Sunday.

Bulacan police director Senior Superintendent Romeo M. Caramat Jr. said the young drug dealer as Marco James Manzanares, of Luwasan St., Bgy. Guyong, Sta. The poseur returned fire in self-defense, killing the suspect on the spot.

The Santa Maria Municipal Police Station described the slain suspect as a repeat drug offender who gained notoriety in his barangay for destroying properties each time he is under the influence of drugs.

Police also said that the suspect is believed to be behind a series of theft incidents in his community.

The suspect’s remains were brought to a local funeral parlor for autopsy.

In Central Visayas, a known ‘high-value’ drug target was arrested by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in an entrapment operation on Sunday, PDEA Director General Isidro S. Lapeña said yesterday.

Rosalia Villanueva Arabis, alias ‘Saling,’ 55, of Bgy. Calamba, Cebu City, was arrested after she sold five grams of shabu worth P18,000 to an undercover officer of the PDEA Regional Office 7 on A. Lopez St., Bgy. Calamba, at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, the PDEA chief said.

Recovered from the suspect’s possession were three heat-sealed plastic sachets containing the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ and the boodle money topped with a marked P500 bill.

According to Lapeña, an investigation conducted by the PDEA Region 7 showed that Arabis can dispose 50 to 100 grams of shabu per week and has existing network with a notorious drug group operating in Central Visayas.

Arabis is now facing charges for  violation of Section 5 (sale of dangerous drugs) and Section 11 (possession of dangerous drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. She is being held at the PDEA Region 7 detention facility in Lahug, Cebu City.
