CABIAO, Nueva Ecija -- A barangay kagawad is now in hot water after he allegedly shot and wounded a 44-year-old man shortly after a fistfight here last Thursday night.

Police identified the suspect as Barangay Kagawad Don Brian Clemente, 35, of Bgy. San Juan South, and the victim as Felino Santiago, 44, alias Plo-plo, of Bgy. Bagong Buhay, both of this town.

Clemente and Santiago both came into blows after having a  heated argument prior to the shooting incident, said case investigator PO3 John D. Ignacio.

After they quarrelled, Santiago took a bolo from his house and went to the suspect’s apartment at 7:40 p.m.

However, Clemente, who saw Santiago coming, drew a short firearm and shot him, hitting the latter in the abdomen.

Police said the wounded victim was rushed to Cabiao General Hospital while the suspect fled on his blue Yamaha Mio motorcycle towards unknown direction.

Ignacio said police are initially looking at love triangle as possible motive behind the incident.

He said this is because the suspect’s girlfriend, identified as Sandra Rose Dionisio, 18, single, of Pandayan St., Bgy. San Lorenzo, Gapan City, is reportedly being courted by the victim.
