Drug pusher killed in Laguna shootout, pal escapes

A suspected drug pusher was killed while his companion escaped in a running gunbattle with the elements of  Laguna Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) during a bust-bust operation on E. Jacinto St., Purok I, Bgy. Sto. Angel Sur, Sta. Cruz, Laguna, Monday night.

A report to Acting Laguna police director Senior Supt. Joel Pernito identified the slain suspect as Elvin Roy Magpili Lavbay, alias Jopet, 21, of Bgy. Maytalang Uno,  Lumban, Laguna.
    
The suspect’s companion, a certain Mec-Mec, is still being hunted by police operatives.
 
Police were conducting an illegal drug operation in Areza, Pagsanjan, Laguna, at around 9:30 p.m.
   
A policeman acting as poseur-buyer was able to buy shabu from the suspect. However, the suspect sensed that his buyer was a policeman, so he immediately boarded his Honda City sedan (DQ8725) and sped toward Sta. Cruz town.
   
At this instance, police chased the fleeing suspect who fired at the former, forcing them to retaliate, hitting the suspect and the car.
 
After the firefight, police seized from the suspect’s car a small heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet of shabu, two small sachets of shabu from the suspect’s possession, 14 fired cartridge cases for M-16 rifle, two cal. 9mm fired cartridge, a deformed slug, a cal. 40, three magazines for cal. 40, a dollar bill, two P1,000 bills, a P500 bill, P200 bill, 12 pieces of P100 bills, various keys, driver’s license and two MK2 fragmentation hand grenades.
    
Police said the suspect is on the watchlist of Lumban police as supplier of illegal drugs in some municipalities of the 4th district in Laguna.
