KATE Morrell and Dzi Gervacio sustained their solid play as BaliPure grounded Philippine Air Force, 25-22, 25-19, 25-21, for its second straight win in the Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference last night at the Philsports Arena.

Morrell scattered 17 of her 19 points from spikes and collected 12 digs while Gervacio added 10 points as the Water Defenders pinned on the Lady Jet Spikers their third loss in four contests.
The win put BaliPure (2-1) within striking distance of league leaders University of Santo Tomas (4-1) and Bureau of Customs (2-1), as it remained on course of claiming one of the four semifinals berths at stake.
Kaylee Manns, the Water Defenders’ other American reinforcement, kept the team together with her superb playmaking.
The current leader in setting department, the 5-foot-11 Manns tossed in 41 excellent sets on top of six points.
“Everybody is in sync and Kaylee has been setting very, very well,” said BaliPure’s Charo Soriano.
“She’s very aggressive and we are very honored to have her in the team. I think, her height is her advantage, very quick. She has very good distribution that helped us a lot.”
Neneng Tapic was the lone Air Force in twin digits with 10 points. Joy Cases and Angel Antipuesto added nine and seven hits for the Jet Spikers, who only drew four points from ace scorer Judy Caballejo.
Fully recovered from their conference opening loss to the Tigresses, the Water Defenders cannot afford to be complacent as they haven’t face heavyweights like Pocari Sweat and Laoag.
“We know we still have a lot of things to improve on, and we wanted to work with that” said Soriano.
