BATANGAS City -- A 39-year-old utility man was gunned down by an unidentified assailant while standing in front of the meat section of the Old Market in Bgy. 22, here.
City police commander Supt. Barnard Danie Dasugo identified the slain man as Elmer Puyo Rodriguez, married, of Sitio Ferry, Bgy. Kumintang Ibaba, this city.
Dasugo said the victim was at the meat section of the Old Market at 11:30 p.m. when an unidentified suspect wearing red T-shirt and a black helmet suddenly appeared and shot him several times.
The victim was brought by responding police officers and barangay tanods to Batangas Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physician Dra. Maria Carmela Andal.
The suspect fled on foot after the incident.
Police recovered three heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu from the pocket of the victim when frisked at the emergency room of said hospital by Arvin Ujales Arellano, nursing attendant.
The Batangas Provincial Crime Laboratory Office, which was requested by the police station to conduct a technical examination, found six fire cartridge casings and three fire bullets for cal. .45 at the crime scene.
Based on police files, the victim was a newly-identified drug personality as a pusher, said Dasugo.
The body of the victim was brought to Holy St. John Funeral Homes in Bgy. Kumintang Ibaba for autopsy.
