LAWMAKERS yesterday saw no sex video but heard one witness talk about the alleged cellphone recording of intimate moments between Sen. Leila de Lima and her rumored driver-bodyguard Ronnie Dayan.
Joenel Sanchez, a member of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) detailed to then Justice Secretary De Lima as close-in aide from July 2010 to May 2015, in his prepared affidavit confirmed the more-than-friendly relationship of the two that the Department of Justice (DoJ) wanted to connect to the drug trade in the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP).
Sanchez said he saw parts of the two sex videos of De Lima and Dayan, as shown to him by the senator’s driver identified only as “Bantam” from the cellphone of Dayan.
“Nailang po ako sa nakita ko kaya hindi ko na tinapos. Kaya naging biruan na lang namin ang video,” Sanchez told solons after disclosing contents of the video in graphic detail.
No member of the House Committee on Justice objected or stopped Sanchez from elaborating on the contents of the sex video he saw.
Heeding the clamor and appeal of various sectors the House leadership had changed its mind about showing the sex video at the resumption of the hearing on the drug trade in the national penitentiary. Even Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II decided not to present it.
According to Sanchez, De Lima and Dayan were so close to each other that the latter regularly stayed over at the senator’s house.
In their out-of-town trips, the two always shared one room.
“Madalas din kaming pumunta sa bahay ni SOJ (Secretary of Justice) De Lima sa Bicol at kapansin-pansin ang sweetness nila. Habang kami ay bumabiyahe papuntang probinsiya sila po ay nagsusubuan ng nilagang saging na saba,” he said.
He likewise revealed that De Lima never forgot to buy Dayan’s favorite liquor and cigarettes.
But the sweet relationship started to turn sour when De Lima met Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) rider Warren Cristobal sometime in 2015, according to Sanchez.
“Nagseselos po si Dayan kay Warren Cristobal. Kapansin-pansin din ang closeness ni Warren Cristobal at SOJ (De Lima) kung kaya’t nagdududa na kami na may special na relasyon ang dalawa,” he said.
Sometime in 2015, Sanchez was added to De Lima’s security detail. He said Dayan got jealous of Cristobal until the former was fired by the then-Justice secretary.
On the other hand, Sanchez admitted that he received at least P15,000, in three instances, from Reynante Diaz, the talent manager of NBP inmate Herbert Colanggo.
During the earlier hearing, another witness, convict Noel Martinez said that Sanchez allegedly collected money from inmates and gave it to high profile inmate Jaybee Sebastian in behalf of De Lima.
Still confined in the hospital, controversial inmate Jaybee Sebastian was not able to testify in the resumption of the House probe yesterday.
Justice Secretary Aguirre the DoJ can present Sebastian and another inmate, Vicente Sy, in the next hearing on Monday.
Dr. Menzi Orellana, physician of Sebastian, at Medical Center Muntinlupa, said it is not advisable to pull out the bilateral tubes attached to the stabbing victim.
Last week, Sebastian and other high-profile inmates were attacked during a melee which left dead convict Tony Co.
Other inmates who already testified pointed to Sebastian as the one who collected money from them for De Lima. The payola was said to be from the sale of illegal drugs.
Meanwhile, Aguirre told the committee that they were not able to locate Ronnie Dayan, the alleged driver-lover of De Lima.
