SENATOR Antonio Trillanes IV has asked the Philippine National Police (PNP) to allow him to turn over to them confessed killer Edgar Matobato, who is in his custody, after a Davao local court issued a warrant of arrest against the hitman for his failure to attend his arraignment for illegal possession of firearms.

Trillanes “openly” admitted yesterday that Matobato is with him. He appealed to the PNP to course through him the arrest order issued by the Municipal Trial Court in Davao City, Branch 3, after Matobato failed to attend his arraignment last Tuesday.

Matobato failed to fly to Davao last Tuesday because he was at the Senate on that day for the continuation of the Senate investigation into the reported extrajudicial killings in Davao City involving the alleged Davao Death Squad (DDS).

“Para hindi tayo maakusahan ng obstruction of justice, sinasabi ko na ngayon na imbes na hanapin si Mr. Matobato, since ako ‘yung nagbibigay sa kanya ng custody, idaan nila sa akin. It is as good as naibibigay na sa kanila at ako na mismo magdadala kay Mr. Matobato sa PNP,” he said.

“So, p’wedeng ipadaan sa akin ang warrant of arrest at ako na ang magpapaabot sa kanya para hindi n’yo na kailangang hanapin pa at wala nang untoward incident,” said Trillanes in a press briefing.
