ASSUNTA De Rossi just came from a vacation in Amanpulo with hubby Jules Ledesma, and his two kids from his first marriage, when she attended the presscon of her new movie, “Higanti”.

“Matagal nang plan ang vacation na ‘yan, hindi matuloy kasi busy ako sa GMA soap ko, ‘Magkaibang Mundo’, then I was shooting pa ‘Higanti’,” she says. “So ngayong natapos na ‘yung soap at ang shooting ng movie, finally, natuloy na rin kami.”

She was only 20 years old when she won a couple of best actress awards for the film “Hubog” in 2001. She played the lead role in other films, then suddenly got married to Cong. Jules in 2004. She didn’t leave her showbiz career and would still do teleseryes and movies every now and then. She now plays the lead role once again in “Higanti”, a movie that is entered in the Metro filmfest but will be shown in various foreign countries first.

“Reunited kami rito ni Jay Manalo, who was with me in ‘Hubog’,” she says. “I play his wife na hiniwalayan niya for his mistress, Katrina Halili. Corrupt congressman siya rito and he’d do everything in his power para mailayo ako sa mga anak namin, sina Meg Imperial and Jon Lucas. You’d think the title refers to me dahil gusto kong maghiganti kay Jay sa ginawa niya sa’kin, but it will be revealed na ang dami palang ibang gustong maghiganti sa kanya dahil sa dami ng atraso niya.”

After “Higanti”, she’d rest and won’t accept any new assignments for a while. “Gusto naming mag-concentrate in having a baby. Yung daughter ni Jules, 20 years old na and she’s now working. Yung son niya, nasa college na rin. 12 years na kaming naghihintay ng sarili naming baby pero hindi pa ibinibigay, e. Now, I’ll do everything magka-baby lang kami, kahit in vitro fertilization. Ako’ng may problema kasi retroverted ang uterus ko, may myoma pa and I also have endometriosis. Buti na lang, we’re blessed para ma-afford lahat ng medical procedures na gagawin sa akin. We trust the Lord na kung gugustuhin niya, we’ll have our own child at the right time, in His own time.”

NATHALIE Hart’s launching film, “Siphayo”, didn’t open in theatres last Wednesday as previously announced. BG Productions, its producer, felt they were given only a very few theaters so they decided to shelve its playdate.
“Sayang naman kasi puro magaganda ang feedback after our premiere night and Nathalie gave her all to the movie,” says line producer Dennis Evangelista. “Tapos, kung maghahanap ang mga tao ng sinehan, kakaunti lang ang available. So we chose to postpone it to a later playdate kapag mabibigyan na nila kami ng more theaters.”
Good luck. But we guess they would have to wait for a while since big local films with bigger stars are opening in the next few weeks. Star Cinema’s “The Third Party” starts showing on October 12, followed by Viva’s “Bakit Lahat ng Guwapo, May Boyfriend” on October 19, both of which are rom-coms on gay relationships. Tom Hanks’ “Inferno”, sequel to “Da Vinci Code” and “Angels and Demons”, will also open on October 12.

A COUPLE of readers wrote to us saying they saw Richard Gutierrez hosting Miss World Philippines Coronation Night on GMA-7 last Sunday and although they feel that the staging was lackluster, they all feel that Richard should make a comeback in an acting role at GMA, his erstwhile home studio, since he looks even handsomer and fitter now than before he left GMA.
And we agree. Compared to other lead actors that they have now, Richard definitely has much more K (karapatan) in doing lead roles in their soaps and even movies. We know Richard said he took a leave then because of burnout, but it turned out he just followed his inamorata Sarah Lahbati to Switzerland to give birth to their son, Zion.
Richard’s son is now one of the most well loved babies in local showbiz, judging from the positive reaction of fans to his internet photos, so we don’t think he’s being a young dad will pose any problem if he’d seriously want to pursue his career again. As for Sarah, she’s now with Viva and ABS-CBN and Direk Carlo Caparas is giving her a starring role in the movie, “Kamandag ng Droga”, currently being filmed and very timely with Pres. Duterte’s Operation Tokhang drive against the drug menace.
Actually, Richard tried to make a comeback via TV5’s “Ang Panday”, and we all know what happened to that ill conceived project that was also aired before as a teleserye and was also a flop then. Maybe GMA-7 should now cook up a new more interesting primetime project for him since his mom, Annabelle Rama, has also kissed and made up with GMA exec Anette Gozon with whom she had a rift before.

ANDI Eigenmann’s career is neither here nor there after she did one flop movie after another, like “Tragic Theatre”, the remake of  “Angela Markado” and the ill-fated rom-com, “Your Place or Mine”. It’s good she was able to participate in a prestige project like “Ma Rosa” and in a surprise hit, “Camp  Sawi”, where she had very minimal exposure compared to Bela Padilla and Arci Munoz.
Now, she can expect her career to suffer further as public opinion is so against her with regard to the Jake Ejercito and their daughter Ellie brouhaha. It turned out that she was lying when she said then that Albie Casino was her daughter’s dad when it’s really Jake who sired Ellie all the while. The reaction against her is truly so negative.
People say she should apologize to Albie and his family for what she did to him which surely somehow helped ruin his career that was burgeoning then after his good exposure in “Mara Clara”. Even her own mother, Jaclyn Jose, sided with her and also censured Albie, without knowing that it’s really Jake who’s Ellie’s dad.
Jake is now the one who’s reaping praise for his official post and statement about his daughter Ellie and his unconditional love for her, without ever mentioning Andi at all. Netizens even say Ellie is so lucky to have such a caring father like Jake and her future is now secured. But they have nothing but unsavory words for Andi, who made it all so complicated when it turned to be so much ado about nothing.
