TAYABAS City, Quezon -- Due to lack of water, it took almost two hours for firemen and residents to control a fire that killed five persons, four of them children, in Sitio Walang Diyos, Bgy. Lalo on Sunday.

City police director Supt. Arturo Brual identified the victims as Joana Marie Durante, 28; Paul Jake Durante Rey, 5; Diserie Durante Rey, 7; Julian Audrey Rey Balabies, 3; and John Lloyd Rey Balabies, 12, all residents of said place.
Brual said the victims’ bodies were recovered by rescuers inside one of the five houses gutted by fire after the blaze was put out.
He said the fire broke out at the house of Virgilyn Chavez Rey at around 10 p.m. and quickly spread to four nearby houses.
“It was around 12 midnight when fireout was declared by personnel of Bureau of Fire Protection,” said Brual, adding the BFP is yet to disclose what triggered the fire.
City Mayor Ernida Reynoso and Councilor Wenda Saberola immediately proceeded to the area to supervise the city rescue teams and give assistance to the victims and affected residents.
