TWO persons died while seven others were injured when a 10-wheeler truck crashed into an electric pole on Molino-Paliparan Road in Dasmariñas City, Cavite, at 10 a.m. the other day.

Dead on the spot were Luningning Cabarloc, 47, a vendor, and Prince John Guadardo, 3, who both sustained serious injuries after they were dragged by the truck. The injured included the driver, identified as Manuel Cruz, 48, and his porter, and some stall owners in Bgy. Paliparan 3, Dasmariñas City.

The accident happened when the brakes of an Isuzu truck (CXL 782) driven by Cruz, of Sitio Fernando, Sto. Tomas, Batangas, failed while approaching the Paliparan traffic light and accidentally sideswiped the left front portion of a Hyundai Eon (ABH 1813) before it swerved to the left and hit a Kawasaki motorcycle (2546 UI) driven by John Wilmar Buligan after which the truck went straight to the sidestreet and bumped a Meralco post before it stopped.

Due to the incident, some 10,000 Meralco consumers lost power. It also caused heavy traffic in the city.

Dionisio Cruz, team leader of Meralco repairmen, said power has been restored to more than 5,000 consumers.

Cruz and the truck were placed under custody of PO2 Ronald Manaig for further investigation and for possible filing of charges.
