SEVEN Indonesian nationals were held at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 yesterday after it was discovered that they were using Philippine passports.
The said group arrived at around 9 a.m. via Philippine Airlines flight PR-659 from Abu Dhabi. They arrived along with Filipino pilgrims who came from Saudi Arabia.
It will be recalled that just last August 19, a total of 177 Indonesians were also held at the airport after it was discovered they were using Philippine passports in going to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Their Filipino escorts were also held and investigated by the Bureau of Immigration.
BI officials expressed belief that there are more Indonesians using Philippine passports who will be arriving after attending the Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
Initial investigation revealed that the Indonesians were given Philippine passports to enable them to join the Hajj pilgrimage, using the quota reserved for Filipino pilgrims by the Saudi government as there were no more available Hajj slots for Indonesians.
