President Rodrigo Duterte appeared to be satisfied with the outcome of the House of Representatives inquiry yesterday on the proliferation of the illegal drug trade inside the national penitentiary after watching it on television, stressing that it showed how Sen. Leila de Lima “allowed” convicted crime lords to run the illegal drug trade from behind bars.
“It would be unfair to say that De Lima was into drug trafficking, but by implication kasi she allowed them through her driver, pati si Baraan [including former Undersecretary Baraan],” Duterte said in his talks before soldiers in his visit to 10th Infantry (Agila) Division in Mawab, Compostela Valley
“I was correct all along because I was supplied with a matrix,” Duterte said, referring to a government model of the illegal drug trade.
He said that the drug scenario in the country with about 3.7 million affected by drugs is “no joke” even as he blamed the previous administration for tolerating the drug menace.
He would have declared Martial Law if he were President Duterte indicated.
Duterte later showed again the thick narco list and mentioned again Naguilian Mayor Reynaldo Flores, tagged as a high value target. The list , the President said ,is dominated by barangay captains such that he pushed for the postponement of the barangay elections this October fearing that drug money will be used for their reelection and narco politics in the country will be aggravated.
Duterte also disclosed that some of his fraternity brothers in San Beda College had links to drug suspects.
Duterte said that many drug suspects were not afraid to commit crimes because they had then the backing of the Department of Justice.
