“FREEDOM is healthy for me.”
This is how former President now Deputy Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo responded when asked why she is getting prettier every day since she was released from hospital detention.
Arroyo was designated as one of the Deputy Speakers of the 17th Congress and assured President Rodrigo Duterte of her full support.
According to Arroyo, she is still undergoing therapy for her cervical spondylosis, a degenerative disease affecting the bones and spine, and her health is improving but she still needs to see a specialist abroad.
She said in jest that her release from detention has made her “bloom.”
On September 20, Arroyo and her husband former First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo will travel to Germany for medical check-up.
“I already sent them all my medical records and the results of my laboratories. They will determine if I still need other tests,” Arroyo said.
In Germany, Arroyo will have a stem cell therapy for her condition. They were allowed by the Sandiganbayan to travel to Germany from September 20 to 29. She will then fly to France nd stay there until October 2 for a vacation. She also plans to visit Filipino communities in Europe.
The couple has a pending graft case before the Sandiganbayan Fourth Division in connection with the botched broadband deal, NBN-ZTE with the Chinese government.
The Supreme Court ordered her released from the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) following the dismissal of her plunder case involving the alleged misuse of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) confidential funds amounting to P366 million.
