TWO motorcycle-riding men died after they engaged members of District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) in a shootout yesterday morning in Quezon City.

QCPD director Senior Supt. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar identified one of the suspects as Vicente Villarosa of Blk. 143, Lot 14, Kagitingan Road, Karangalan Village, Cainta, Rizal.

According to DSOU head Supt. Rogarth Ocampo, his men were manning a  checkpoint along with members of the Anti-Carnapping Unit at Dahlia Street in Fairview when they spotted the suspects without helmets and flagged down the duo around 3:30 a.m.

Instead of heeding, the suspects sped off prompting the authorities to chase them. One of the suspects fired shot at chasing policemen resulting in a brief shootout.

Police brought the two wounded suspects to the Far Eastern University (FEU) hospital but Dr. Arnold Corpuz declared them dead on arrival.

Aside from the motorcycle, police also recovered a .45 pistol, a sachet of shabu and a .38 revolver.

Meanwhile, a jeepney barker identified only through his alias as ‘Rommel Baba’, aged between 20 and 30 years old, about 5’6” tall and medium built, died on the spot from a gunshot wound in the head after he was shot by a still unidentified gunman in front of a gasoline station at the corner of P. Guevarra and Lacson Streets in Sta. Cruz, Manila, yesterday morning.

The victim was reportedly a police informant.  The suspect simply fled by boarding a pedicab.

In Caloocan, Joselito Jimenez, 43, tricycle driver of 2885 Villa Imelda Area, Barangay 178, Camarin, was shot by one of  two riding-in-tandem suspects at the corner of M.H. Del Pilar and M. Malvar Streets at around 1:10 a.m. yesterday.
