unidentified armed men shot and killed two suspected drug personalities in separate incidents before dawn yesterday and Friday night in Caloocan and Malabon cities.
The body of Arnel Matias, 30, garbage collector, of Phase 7A, Package 7, Block 44, Lot 16, Barangay 176, Bagong Silang, was found by purok leader Angelita Chavez, 55, at the corner of Phase 8 and Phase 7A at around 2:15 a.m.
A cursory examination conducted by elements of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) showed visible gunshot wounds in the victim’s head and body. Five pieces of empty shells for caliber .9mm pistol were recovered by police at the crime scene.
Supt. Reydante Ariza, chief of Caloocan Police North Extension Office (NEO), said the wife of the victim, Esmeralda Matias, 37, admitted to the police that her husband was using illegal drugs.
In Malabon City, Reynaldo Reyes Jr., 35, electrician and resident of 400 M. Sioson St., Barangay Dampalit, was walking on his way home at around 10 p.m. Friday in an alley of M. Sioson Street when two armed men blocked his path and shot him repeatedly in the body, killing him instantly.
After the killing, the suspects fled on board a single motorcycle and sped away towards an unknown direction.
The victim’s neighbor told Malabon homicide investigator PO2 Benjamin Sy that the victim had recently submitted himself to the police under Oplan Tokhang. He was also included in the watchlist of Barangay Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) for his alleged continued selling of illegal drugs.
