MASBATE City -- An armed group calling itself “Provincial Operation for Socio-Economic Development Against Crime” (POSDAC) headed by a certain retired Col. Sauro was reported to be responsible for harassment and confiscation of fish catch of local fishermen off Deagan Island in Bgy. Magcaraguit, Dimasalang, over the weekend.
Local fish trader Raul Bulalaque Sabrisa, 51, of Bgy. Balocawe, Dimasalang, reported to the Dimasalang MPS that men wearing bonnets and armed with long and short firearms, and claiming to be members of the “POSDAC,” apprehended his fishing boat and crewmen near Deagan Island and fired automatic weapons.
According to Sabrisa, when the boat and crewmen Alvin Materdan Robles, 22, Alex Escaran, Melbin Layson Carot, Aldrin Labajo dela Cruz and a certain Amado went back to their locality to dock at the shores of Bgy. T.R. Yanco at the coastlines of Dimasalang town, they were blocked by a certain “Jun-Jun” Cebu, a member of the “POSDAC” who was armed with a pistol ordered them to go back to Deagan Island.
Barangay Kagawad Mila Carot of Magcaraguit said her son Melbin was among the fishermen apprehended by the “POSDAC.”
Carot said Col. Sauro and about 10 armed men on board a big motorized boat seized all the catch and fishing gear of the fishermen.
