LAND Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chairman Martin Delgra III yesterday ordered bus operators to deploy more buses along the Cavite coastal road with the expected decrease in colorum and UV express vans along the route.
The LTFRB last week issued a Memorandum Circular 2016-009 banning UV Express in EDSA, except when crossing. The ban was implemented last Monday.
The LTFRB said the move aims to ease traffic congestion in Metro Manila particularly along EDSA.
The ban on UV Express along EDSA has created mixed reactions from different sectors especially from transport and commuters sectors.
Orlando Marquez, of the Liga ng Transportasyon at Opereytor sa Pilipinas (LTOP), said it would be better to first conduct a consultation before an order is issued and implemented to avoid disagreements.
Efren de Luna, of the Alliance of Concerned Transport Organizations (ACTO), agreed with Marquez and said that the order was implemented without consulting transport and commuter groups.
In a separate interview, Atty. Vigor Mendoza, chairman of the Kilusan sa Pagbabago ng Industriya ng Transportasyon (KAPIT) proposed a ban on private vehicles with three or less passengers on EDSA. He added that the ban should not be implemented on UV Express which caters to more people.
