Anne Curtis Anne Curtis

ANNE Curtis’ last movie was “The Gifted” two years ago. Her only exposure these days is in “Showtime”, so it’s really high time for her to do a new movie, “Bakit Lahat ng Guwapo, May Boyfriend?”, produced by the IdeaFirst Company of Perci Intalan and Jun Lana for Viva Entertainment. She’s paired for the first time with Dennis Trillo and Paolo Ballesteros in a controversial and different kind of romantic comedy.

“There were offers naman to me, I read about 4 or 5 scripts, but wala akong nagustuhan,” she says. “Until this project came nga and I think it’s worth the long wait for me. I like it kasi naiiba siya ng klaseng love triangle. Sa script pa lang, natawa na ako, hindi ko maibaba until I read it in full. And in real life, totoo naman 'yun, ang daming guwapo, mga maskulado, then malalaman mo, gay pala. Tapos first time ko rito to work with Dennis and Paolo who are both with GMA, and also with Jun Lana as our director, so I accepted it. So 'yung fans na tanong nang tanong sa’kin when my next movie will be, heto na po yun and I think it’s the right project for me.”

But she was surprised when the first scene she shot with Dennis was a kissing taken from different angles. “Nabigla ako kasi, bakit 'yun agad? But they explained namang para ma-break the ice agad kami ni Dennis and it worked kasi comfortable na kami agad sa isa’t isa. At first, we felt awkward, pero dahil may pinagawang nakakatawa sa akin while we’re kissing, umokey naman agad. Umuungol-ungol kasi ako while kissing. Ha ha ha!”

So how is it working with Dennis? “I got excited kasi I know he’s a very good actor. Sobrang I can feel na may chemistry kami and I hope it will come out well on screen.”

How about with Paolo? “Magkalaban ang noontime shows namin, di ba? But nagkahulihan agad kami ng loob. Siya ang ex-boyfriend ko in the story. But it turned out closet queen pala siya. Tapos, boyfriend ko si Dennis, ikakasal na kami, then I learned may nakaraan pala silang dalawa.”
So she doesn’t have a gaydar and wasn’t able to detect the connection between Dennis and Paolo? “In real life, yes, malakas ang gaydar ko. E, sa showbiz, di ba araw-araw nakapaligid sa’king katrabaho ko, puro gays. From Vice Ganda pa lang and the make up artists, P.A.’s, puro gay, so paanong hindi lalakas ang gaydar ko?”
All her close friends like Georgina Wilson, Solenn Heussaff and Isabelle Daza are getting married. What about her? Is it true her relationship with Erwan Heussaff has gotten sour? “No, it’s still going strong. Baka in three years, more or less, we’ll see. Six years na kami together, e. But we’re not in a rush as we’re happy naman where we are right now. We’re both busy with our careers, so huwag nyo kaming madaliin. The right time for that will come naman.”
How does she feel when writers say her sister Jasmine Curtis Smith, who got lots of positive acclaim for “Imagine You and Me”, is a better actress than her? “Of course, I’m proud of her. She’s my baby and I’m so happy for her when people text me or tweet me to say she did a great job. It’s inevitable for people to compare us with each other. Uso naman sa showbiz ang ganun, di ba? But I’m not affected. Whatever negative things people say or write about me, di ako affected kasi I’ve learned the art of dedma.”

ONE of the most promising male newcomers on ABS-CBN is PBB recruit Joshua Garcia, whose main claim to fame is that he looks like a younger version of John Lloyd Cruz. After being paired with his PBB ka-loveteam Loisa Andalio in “Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita”, Joshua now goes solo in “The Greatest Love” as the son of Dimples Romana who becomes very  close to his lola, Sylvia Sanchez, to whom Dimples is very hostile. Doesn’t he miss Loisa?
“Yes. Siyempre, kasi naging special friend ko siya talaga since PBB and while taping our soap. Naging sobrang matalik kaming magkaibigan. Pero hindi naging kami kasi sobrang napakabata niya. She’s only 16.”
Aside from Loisa, he’s very open in saying he has a big crush on Kathryn Bernardo and he’s glad to be part of Kathryn’s new movie with Daniel Padilla filmed in Barcelona, Spain. What qualities of Kathryn does he like in her?
“Unang-una, I like 'yung mahinhing-mahinhin siya. Babaeng-babae ang dating. Mabait siya. Alam niyang baguhan lang ako and she’s very friendly to me. Pareho sila ni Daniel. Mababait sila. Naging close kaming lahat while shooting in Barcelona. Inggit nga ako kasi sobrang sweet sila sa isa’t isa. Hanggang nakabalik na kami rito, friends pa rin kami.”
Looks like ABS-CBN really sees a great potential in him as he has a new movie and a new TV show.”I want to thank them for their trust in me, kaya naman ginagawa ko ang lahat para maging maayos ang trabaho ko. I’m also happy to be part of “The Greatest Love”. Ang sarap katrabaho nina Ms. Dimples, Tita Sylvia, Andi Eigenmann, pati sina Matt Evans and Arron Villaflor na uncles ko rito. I’m learning so much from them when it comes to acting. I’m looking forward to each day na may taping kami.”

TATES Gana used to just stay at the sidelights supporting her longtime companion, QC Mayor Herbert Bautista, dad of her daughter Athena, turning 20 in October, and son Harvey, turning 13 next month. Now, she is also taking center stage as the host of “Serbisyo Publiko”, along with Angelo Almonte, aired Monday to Friday, 11 AM to 12 Noon, on DZRJ 810AM and on 8 Tri-TV Cablelink Ch.7. So what convinced her to host a show?
“Actually, noon pa ako may offer to host a radio show, or even a TV show, but I’ve always felt na mas mabuting nasa background lang ako ni mayor,” she says. “Pero dati na akong tumutulong sa mga taong nangangailangan, like sa ChildHaus ni Mader Ricky Reyes. Last election, I ran as councilor sa hangarin kong makatulong pa sa mas maraming tao. E, hindi ginusto ni Lord na manalo ako. Tapos, dumating itong offer ng Trimedia Broadcasting Network and I realized na hindi naman kailangang nasa politics ka to help people. With this show, makakatulong kami ng co-host kong si Angelo Almonte to be the link in helping people in need to refer them to the right agencies and organizations who can help them. This is really a good way to help the public and we’ll help lahat ng taong hihingi sa amin ng tulong, from problems with the SSS, DTI, yung mga maysakit, lahat.”
Their show started airing last Monday. “I was so nervous kasi hindi ako madaldal. Tapos isinalang agad ako with Angelo. Sabi ko nga kay Mayor, kinakabahan ako, but he said, kaya mo 'yan.”
So it’s not true that she and Mayor Herbert have parted for good, especially after he got linked to Kris Aquino? “We never lost communication. Lagi siyang very supportive sa akin. Nagte-text siya.”
But we thought their kids felt bad and cried hard when the mayor was rumored to be considering walking down the aisle with Kris? “Umiyak nga sila, but then, siguro, dapat lang nilang pagdaanan sa buhay ang mga ganung klase ng problema. Basta ako, I have no bad thoughts or bad words for Kris. At si Mayor, mabait naman siya, hindi nagkukulang sa amin. Noong magbakasyon kami sa States ng mga bata, sumunod pa nga siya to be with us.”
She never asked the Mayor to marry her? “Honestly, hindi na ako naghahanap pa. Happy naman ako, e. I have accepted the situation. Very thankful nga ako sa dami ng blessings sa akin. I’m happy with our kids. Athena is now in 3rd year majoring political science at the Ateneo, very active sa iba’t ibang orgs and extra-curricular activities doon. Si Harvey naman, who tried acting in ‘Goin Bulilit’, may offer to be part ng bagong JaDine series. Kaso regular student siya at grade 8, hindi pinayagan ng school. Now, may offer uli to be part ng isang movie for the Metro Manila Filmfest. We’ll see kung papayagan siya.”

ANGELO Almonte says Tates Gana has nothing to be worried about her kind of hosting. “Magaling siya,” he says. “She knows what to do at nag-blend kami agad on the air.”
Angelo was born and raised in Davao City so he’s supporting our new Pres. Duterte all the way. “I’m a martial arts champion then at si Pres. Duterte used to be a member of our club,” he says. “He promises drastic change for our country and our government, so sana, masunod lahat at magkatotoo ang mga plano niya for us.”
He studied at the University of Mindanao and, at 19, he became a karate instructor and also a DJ. In 1989, he auditioned with ABS-CBN in Manila and was immediately hired as a newsreader for DZMM. “Isinama ako kay Ted Failon sa DZMM Network News and I eventually became a news director. I stayed with ABS for 21 years. I took their offer for early retirement in 2011, then I moved to Solar TV, which became CNN Philippines.         But I’m leaving them na kasi I really want to go back to radio at magandang opportunity itong ‘Serbisyo Publiko’ DZRJ for me to be of help to people. Lahat ng klaseng problema at reklamo, tatanggapin namin dito, from OFW’s na hindi makauwi to people needing legal services. Wala kaming tatanggihan.”
