ASG man in beheading of Marines captured

SECURITY forces yesterday arrested an alleged member of the Abu Sayyaf Group wanted for his involvement in a series of kidnappings and other cases in Mindanao including the beheading of Marine troopers in Al-Barka, Basilan in 2007.

Abdulpattah Ismael, alias Patah Hamjak, was nabbed in his hideout in Barangay Riverside, Isabela City, Basilan past 1 a.m.

Police Regional Office 9 director Chief Supt. Napoleon Estilles said at least 13 warrants of arrest for multiple murders, kidnapping-for-ransom and serious illegal detention have been issued against Ismael. No bail was recommended for his temporary liberty.

The suspect went into hiding after he was implicated in the beheading of several Marine soldiers in Al-barka, Basilan in 2007.

Ismael was also tagged in the attack at the Basilan Provincial Jail in 2009 to rescue jailed Moro Islamic Liberation Front commander Dan Laksaw Asnawi and in a foiled kidnapping attempt in Sangali, Zamboanga City.

The suspect was also tagged as the man who procured uniforms of the elite Philippine National Police Special Action Force worn by the terrorist during an attack in Isabela City in 2010.
