P1.1-M bounty for NE mayor’s killer

CABANATUAN City -- A P1.1-million bounty has been raised for any information that would lead to the arrest of the killers of Carranglan Mayor Restituto Abad in Guimba, Nueva Ecija, last February 4.

Police said Jose Berlino Gonzales, 49, of Bgy. Pagas, this city, one of the two suspected assassins, had been arrested and is now under custody while a second cohort, tagged as the alleged triggerman, identified as Jonathan Carpio, alias Atan, has remained at large and now the subject of a manhunt.

Separate complaints for murder and frustrated murder have already been filed against the duo and several John Does in connection with the mayor’s killing and the wounding of the latter’s driver-bodyguard, PFC Satty Duclayan.

This developed as provincial police director S/Supt. Roberto L. Aliggayu ordered the immediate relief of Guimba town police head Supt. Renato David following the mayor’s death at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City, four days after the shooting.

David is now re-assigned at the provincial police headquarters here and has been replaced by Supt. Reynaldo Dela Cruz.

Aliggayu said he has created a special operation task force to hunt down the other suspects in the killing of Abad. The eight-man task force is led by Supt. Sidney N. Villaflor, deputy provincial director for operations.
