A BODYGUARD of a rich businessman was killed when he resisted during a robbery the other day in Negros Occidental.
The fatality was identified as Celso Cari-an, bodyguard of sugar trader Herminia Ledesma.
Reports reaching Camp Crame showed the incident occurred at around 1 a.m. in Kabankalan, Negros Occidental.
Investigators said the victim escorted Cheryl Begota, secretary of his employer, in handling P2 million from the bank when two men on board a motorcycle appeared.
At gunpoint, the suspects declared a holdup but the victim attempted to fight them off.
One of the suspects shot the victim. He was taken to the Southern Negros Doctors Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The suspects quickly fled.
Recovered at the crime scene were six empty shells for caliber .45 pistol and two bundles of cheques for Bank of Commerce.
Authorities are conducting follow-up investigation into the incident.
