Remittance center robbed, suspect killed in clash


MALOLOS City -- A suspected robber was killed in an encounter with police operatives in Sta. Maria, Bulacan, Friday night.

Bulacan police director Senior Supt. Fernando Mendez Jr. identified the slain suspect as Pablito Umerez, of 14 Caingin, Bocaue, Bulacan.

Mendez said the suspect was identified through a receipt from a pawnshop and a temporary driver’s license found inside the his wallet.

Initial investigation disclosed that at about 6:09 p.m., one of the suspects entered the LBC remittance office and showed his firearm to one of the employees inside the counter. Afterwards, the suspect went outside and  called his cohort.

Alert employees of the remittance center, identified as Melissa Bernardo and Lilibeth Domingo, secretly sent a text message to the policemen detailed outside the establishment.

The suspect pulled out his gun and shot one of the responding policemen who were forced to retaliate, hitting the suspect in the body.

The other suspect was able to escape on board an unlicensed black motorcycle.

The wounded suspect was declared dead on arrival at the Rogaciano Mercado Memorial Hospital.

A SOCO team from the Bulacan Provincial Crime Laboratory Office found a Colt caliber .45 pistol and a  magnum caliber .22 revolver at the scene.

The provincial director said the incident was recorded by a closed circuit television (CCTV) installed at the establishent from the time one of the suspects entered the LBC office until he went out.
